Manchester United has also won three European Cups, one Europa League, one Cup Winners' Cup, one Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one Club World Cup.
Best way to travel to Old Trafford
By train
The train is by far the best option if you travel to Old Trafford. The nearest station is Manchester United Soccer Ground, this station is located immediately outside the away end. From Manchester Piccadilly Mainline Station, the train has a direct connection to Manchester Piccadilly Mainline Station.By tram/metrolink
We would recommend the tram as the second-best option. The other quickest way of getting to Old Trafford (especially for Sunday matches) is to grab a lift on the nearest tram/metrolink. Trams travel every 12 minutes every day of the week. The nearest tram station to Old Trafford is located next to Lancashire County Cricket Club on Warwick Road, which leads straight up to Sir Matt Busby Way and takes about a 10 minutes' walk.By car
is the third and final option to travel to Old Trafford. There are plenty of small private car parks close to the stadium. The only problem is they tend to fill up pretty early on matchdays. When traveling by car, we recommend you to be there at least one, but preferably two hours before the match.By bus
There is a bus station called Old Trafford, Matt Busby way located near Old Trafford. Frequent bus services 255, 256, X50 can take you to Old Trafford. However we advise you to take either the bus or the train, since the busses are always filled with people on matchdays.Old Trafford Seating Guide: Search for the Best Place to Seat
With 74,310 fans, Old Trafford – the Theatre of Dreams – is the biggest club stadium in the UK. Manchester United's stadium since 1910 has also been home to many famous matches. Different levels of the four stands each provide different match day experiences. This manual guides you in finding the right Man United tickets for Old Trafford.
Stretford End
Manchester United fans cherish their spiritual home at the Stretford End. At this point the atmosphere is created, song commences and the most zealous Red Devils gather. This stand, named for the nearby suburb of Stretford, has been the beating heart of Old Trafford for generations.
Atmosphere: The loudest stand in Old Trafford by far. The Stretford End is where "Glory Glory Man United" rages the loudest with its ringing and the now legendary "United! United!" chant originates. It is this at the core of the Theatre of Dreams.
Best for: Hardcore United fans who wish to sing throughout the match, fans who prefer atmosphere to perfect sightlines, anyone looking for the real Old Trafford experience.
Consider if: You're looking to join in the vocal support and can stand for the majority of the match even if you have your seat.
View: Behind the goal, so the action at the far end (East Stand) feels like a distant thing. But when United attack the Stretford End (which in most big matches would be the second half), you are absolutely on top of the goal.
Sections breakdown:
- Tier 1 (Lower): Heart of atmosphere, closest to the pitch, where the most vocal fans gather
- Tier 2 (Upper): Well-placed view up high and good atmosphere going in and out from bottom, popular with season ticket holders
Tip: The central Stretford End Tier 2 sections are an eye-opener of atmosphere and view. You are just surrounded by singing supporters. In addition, the sight of the entire pitch can be seen.
Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (North Stand)
Renamed in 2011 to honor Manchester United's greatest ever manager, the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand runs along the north side of the pitch. The three-tier stand offers good sideline views and features a mix of general admission and premium seating.
Atmosphere: Good feel, very attractive in the lower tier, most importantly in the lower parts close to the Stretford End. The upper tiers can also be a bit quieter due to the mix of hospitality patrons and visitors.
Best for: Fans in search of great sideline views, a balance between atmosphere and comfort, first-time visitors, families.
Consider if: You want to have a straightforward view of both goals and know the tactical perspective of the match.
View: Superb sideline perspective. Central passages in the stadium arguably feature the best pure soccer views – tactical patterns crystallised, and the penalty areas are clear.
Sections breakdown:
- Tier 1 (Lower): On pitch level, great player details
- Tier 2 (Middle): Premium seating and hospitality with better facilities
- Tier 3 (Upper): High view from the panoramas, good value options in the wings
Tip: Sir Alex Ferguson Stand Tier 1 sections near the Stretford End corner offer a nice balance of sideline viewing and close to the local vibe.
Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (East Stand)
Renamed in 2016 to celebrate the storied career of Sir Bobby Charlton — Munich survivor, 1966 World Cup winner, and United's second-highest goalscorer — the East Stand stands opposite the Stretford End. This stand includes the players' tunnel, dugouts, directors' box, and the bulk of the TV cameras.
Atmosphere: Quieter than the Stretford End but busy. The corporate guests, media, and directors' box add to a slightly more muted tone in central sections.
Best for: Fans who are looking for players to get out of the tunnel, viewers looking for dugout reactions, guests in premium hospitality, writers interested in the "TV view".
Consider if: You're interested in watching the managers hound the technical area, or you're interested in the pre-match tunnel experience.
View: The TV camera view of Old Trafford is classic. The central sections provide the view you see on television broadcasts.
Sections breakdown:
- Tier 1 (Lower) Central: Closest to tunnel and dugouts – watch players walk out and managers give instructions
- Tier 1 Wings: Good sideline views, usually cheaper than central
- Tier 2 (Middle): Premium hospitality with executive boxes and lounges
- Tier 3 (Upper): Elevated views, great for photographing
Tip: Be there early if you're in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand Tier 1 – it's a unique Old Trafford experience to watch the players make their way out of the tunnel and warm up.
South Stand
The newest and biggest stand in Old Trafford, the South Stand was added in 2006. This three-level structure accommodates the away supporters in one corner, and features a range of seating options, including an accessible platform for people in wheelchairs.
Atmosphere: Area-dependent. Sections close to the Stretford End corner have a nice feel, with the away sections naturally supporting the visiting side. And the family section is also here.
Best for: Fans who want sideline views, families (family section available), those in the market looking for good value tickets, anyone seeking seating options.
Consider if: You are willing to pay for sideline views at no high price.
View: Well held for the sidelines, there are areas of seat where you don't quite know where you are compared to the pitch, with the wider concourse design being an issue.
Sections breakdown:
- Tier 1 (Lower): Family, seating available
- Tier 2 (Middle): Admiring views, general admission & hospitality fusion
- Tier 3 (Upper): 360-degree views about stadium
- Away Section: South-East corner in which visiting supporters are housed
Tip: South Stand tier 3 tickets – Best value tickets available at Old Trafford with some surprisingly awesome views of the action.

Rivalries
Main Rivals
Liverpool
The match between Man United and Liverpool is often referred to as the North-West derby. The rivalry between the two most successful Premier League clubs has been fuelled by the proximity of the two major cities that they represent.
Manchester City
The rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City is purely based on being neighbors, since Man City played for many years on a lower level. Things starting to heat up between both fanbases since Manchester City is becoming a real force in English soccer.
Leeds United
The rivalry originates from the strong enmity between the historic counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire. Although the cities of Leeds and Manchester lie over 40 miles (64 km) apart, the tradition is upheld and this strong feeling can still be seen between the two clubs.
Minor Rivalries
Arsenal
The rivalry with Arsenal was instigated in 1990, when a brawl resulted in both clubs having points deductions in the Football League First Division. Things got even more intense when Man United and Arsenal dominated the Premier League in the 90s.
