The final round of this Premier League season incoming. The relegation battle is done, the title is secured by Manchester City, while Manchester United has secured the second place. The third and fourth spot are still open. In this article we discuss the three candidates for a Champions League ticket.
Chelsea
Three teams are still in contention for a Champions League ticket. Chelsea has the best chance with 67 points. Liverpool and Leicester are both on 66 points. Liverpool is in fourth because they’ve got a better goal difference. Chelsea plays an away match against Aston Villa. The Villans know they will finish in 11th place, so they’ve got nothing to play for. A situation that’s potentially very tricky for Chelsea. A good Aston Villa team, with the support of their fans who are back allowed in the stadium, wants to give their fans a good sending off.
Liverpool
Liverpool plays a home match against Crystal Palace. Another battle where one team has got all to play for and one team without any kind of pressure. This time it’s the team with all to play for that plays at home. Liverpool won the title last season without the presence of their fans, so they would love to make up for that by winning this match and securing a Champions League ticket. Even if the players aren’t up for it, the fans will get them pumped up. Even though the stadium won’t be completely filled, the scenes will be unbelievable at Anfield after such a long time playing without fans.
Leicester City is the final team that would like to qualify for the Champions League. The Foxes won the FA Cup this season. Finishing in the top 4 together with winning an FA Cup would be a dream scenario. They have the hardest task out of the three candidates. Leicester plays at home against Tottenham Hotspur. It’s highely unlikely that the Foxes make up a 4 goals difference with Liverpool in this match. So they need to focus on winning the game. Then all they can do is to hope that either Chelsea of Liverpool drops points.
