It’s going to be a very interesting weekend filled with English football. Several Premier League matches will be played. It starts tonight with the match between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. From today till Monday the 26th, there is at least one Premier League match every day. But more importantly, the FA Cup semi-finals will be played this weekend. Four teams will try to reach the FA Cup final at Wembley. A match which can become very special, since there is an opportunity that fans will be allowed back into the stadium for that match. In this article we preview the FA Cup semifinals Chelsea versus Manchester City and Leicester City versus Southampton.
Chelsea versus Manchester City
The first semi-final is on Saturday at Wembley. Chelsea is drawn as the home team and faces Manchester City. Both teams will enter this match in a great spirit, after reaching the Champions League semi-finals earlier this week. So, this FA Cup match might not be the last time these teams face each other in a cup tournament this season. Manchester City will be the most motivated to win this match, they are rolling towards the Premier League title and are still in every cup tournament possible. Pep Guardiola’s team wants to write history by winning all trophies they’re in. Chelsea would like to grab this chance to win their first trophy since Thomas Tüchel replaced Frank Lampard.
Leicester City versus Southampton
The second semi-final is at Wembley is the one between Leicester City and Southampton. This is for both teams the ultimate opportunity to win a trophy. Something that doesn’t happen much for them. Leicester City hasn’t won the FA Cup yet, but they have won the Premier League in 2016. Southampton won the FA Cup in 1976, the only major trophy the club has ever won. Winning this semifinal would bring the team to Wembley, in an attempt to nick the throphy of the winner between Chelsea and Manchester City.
