We've been writing about the return of the Premier League for some time now, so we're happy it's finally time to write about football again. After the two catch-up matches, a complete round of Premier League football is finished yesterday. Every Premier League club is on 30 games now, so it's only 8 rounds of play before everything is decided. In this article we look at the biggest talking points after this round.
Relegation Battle
I think everybody will agree with me that Norwich City is pretty much down to the Championship. They are on 21 points and didn't look good at all against Southampton. With 8 more games to go, it's hard to see them get into the 17th place. The four teams above Norwich City all have hopes to finish above the line. Aston Villa is currently in 19th place with 26 points. They went toe to toe with Chelsea for a while, but in the end the Blues from London were just a bit better. Bournemouth and West Ham United are both on 27 points. One or two consecutive wins can be huge for these teams. Just above them we see Watford, who are on 28 points after drawing with Leicester City. Ever since Nigel Pearson took over, Watford is looking much better. Brighton and Hove Albion is currently in 15th place with 32 points after beating Arsenal on Saturday. It looks like Brighton is safe for the remainder of this season.
Battle for fifth place
Manchester City faces an European football ban for two years. They try to appeal it, but if the ban stands, the 5th place in the Premier League is good for a Champions League ticket. Manchester United is currently in fifth place with 46 points. The same amount of points as Wolverhampton, only Man United has a better goal difference. Sheffield United is only two points behind them. These three teams are in the best position for a 5th place finish. Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Arsenal will all hope they can get into the fifth place before the end of the season.
