How is the transition phase going for Arsenal?

Arsenal got rid of Arsene Wenger over the summer. The longest serving premier league manager, decided with the board of directors that it was time end his 22 years’ service to the club. Arsenal decided to replace Wenger with Unai Emery. Emery last coached PSG, however, lost his job over the summer because he couldn’t get passed the quarter final stage of the Champions League. Now he is at Arsenal and his task is to try to rejuvenate the squad.

The last couple of seasons, the Arsenal fans were not happy with Wenger and with the team. Wenger brought great success to the club in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. However, in the last years the style has not changed, and the club went 9 years without winning a trophy, until winning back to back FA cup’s in 2014 and 2015 and again in Wenger’s last season in 2017. However, this was not enough for the Arsenal fans as the club were not challenging for the title or getting far in the Champions League and that is why Wenger and the Arsenal board decided it was time for a change.

Arsenal lost the first two Premier League games of the season and many thought it would be more of the same. However, since then they have not lost. Furthermore, the team looks much more solid. The partnership between Aubameyang and Lacazette started out shaky, but now looks like a very formidable partnership in the last few games. Additionally, players who had a bad season last season Iwobi and Holding have been playing very well. Arsenal sit in 4th at the moment in the Premier League, two points behind top spot.

This season, Arsenal’s main objective is to get back into the Champions league. That can be done by either finishing in the top 4 of the Premier League or winning the Europa league. Those are both hard tasks as the competition is strong in the league and the Europa League has some strong teams as well. However, if Arsenal continue to play the way they have the last month, keep a solid defence and have Aubameyang and Lacazette firing, then they will have a good chance of making it back into the Champions League.
