Zinedine Zidane is one of the most successful managers in the history of Real Madrid. The French manager resigned from his job after winning three consecutive Champions League trophies. The English Premier League is his preferred next destination, according to the French newspaper L'Equipe. Manchester United would be his dream job in the Premier League.
Mourinho still in place
Even if the rumours are true, there is one big major obstacle for Zidane. Jose Mourinho is currently still the Manchester United manager. But there are a lot of struggles between the Portuguese manager and the board of the club. Mourinho is very happy with the transfer activities and he expressed his feelings several times in the media. The struggles between the board and Mourinho might lead to an early exit. If Zidane really is interested to work for Man United next, this might not help Mourinho’s case. People say: “What goes around, comes around” and this can become reality for Mourinho. When Louis van Gaal was at the club, Jose negotiated with the club, which eventually led to the sacking of the Dutch manager. A similar situation might happen when Zidane really wants this job.
I think a lot of Manchester United fans would be extremely happy with Zinedine Zidane as their manager. There is a lot of dissatisfaction amongst the fans concerning the way Mourinho let’s his team play. Manchester United was always the club of attractive and attacking football. Now they are called park the bus Man United. The fact that their neighbours from Man City are now the most attractive team in the Premier League, makes it even worse.
It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens when Man United starts dropping points in the Premier League. Will the fans stand behind their manager, or will they try to push him out to make space for Zidane?
