The 2018 World Cup is just around the corner and we are all incredibly excited at Live Football Tickets, for what is arguably the most important event in footballing.
The quadrennial event will be kicking off on 14th June, and this year will be held in Russia. As we anticipate the upcoming tournament, we have been reflecting on World Cups of the past. As we recounted the highs and lows of previous tournaments, and our predictions for this year we decided to map out some of the greatest country trivia in World Cup history to help get you revved up for this year’s event.
We have dug into the data and pulled out some of the most interesting facts about every country’s involvement in the World Cup since the tournament first began, and have mapped out our findings into one insightful graphic for your enjoyment.
Specifically we have looked at how many times each country has been in the World Cup, the first and the most recent World Cup appearances for each country, how many times each country has won the World Cup and the years of these wins, and where and when each World Cup tournament has been hosted.
The country which has made the most appearance in the World Cup are Brazil, who have played in all 21 tournaments, including 2018’s Russia World Cup. It is no surprise then that the country has also won the most cups, taking the trophy a grand total of five times. Close behind Brazil are Italy and Germany who have each taken the win four times. The only other countries to have ever won the World Cup are Argentina, Uruguay, Spain and England. Uruguay were the first ever team to win the World Cup, taking the trophy in the first tournament in 1930 which was hosted by the country.
Several countries have hosted the tournament on two occasions, including Mexico, Italy, Germany, France and Brazil.
